Tickets narrative analysis-CHITRA

Introduction/Exposition

The setting of the story is in a train where there is a chance of encountering different people of different places ,ages and backgrounds.

The personality of each character is revealed through the initial dialogues itself. The woman comes across as a bad tempered, argumentative , un cooperative and controlling woman . This comes across during the conversation with Fillipo and the fight over the phone . She is not a person who will let anything stand in her way. Some times she treats him like a toy boy as she looks annoyed when he gives attention to other women. The relationship between them is not clear initially.

Filippo is submissive, polite and a sad look stays constant in his eyes.He tries his best to bear with the woman. The revelation of the background of the characters are being exposed later .The relationship between them is brought out through the talk at the café between Filippo and people who witnessed her inappropriate behaviour. She is a widow traveling to attend her
Husbands memorial service and Filippo, is doing service to the old lady.

More about Filippo’s background and relationships come out through the conversation with the girl in the train.

Rising Action

The woman’s behaviour to the guy is very bossy and she treats him as if she overpowers him. Different dialogues from the beginning irritates the guy,but he keeps his cool.
A major complication that occurred was the fight over the seat where the woman fights for the seat that doesn’t belong to her. She doesn’t even let Filippo utter a word and embarrasses him .As he goes to the café ,the comments on his relationship with the woman annoys him further. The woman keeps interrupting his conversation with girl with her authoritarian call ‘Filippo’ . showing him that her main problem is that she doesn’t want him to talk to her,not like she wants any help .Also, she keeps finding faults with him all the time and talks in an angry tone. All these complications pile up in his mind until he reaches his peak point of tolerance. This change in his attitude due to the complications leads to the climax.

Climax

The turning point of the story occurs when Filippo retaliates for the first time and leaves ,proving that it’s the lady who is dependent on him but not vice versa. He doesn’t have to obey like a dog to her all the time.

Falling action

The lady realizes how important the service was to her .His reaction bruises her ego and she runs all around the train to find him. For the first time she speaks in a normal tone ,seeking apology, assuming he is in the loo. She keeps her ego aside as she really needs him now.

The moment is suspense is whether she would find Filippo or not.

Denouement

The lady is left unaided at the station and she had to be on her own. Filippo had left her.
