Plot Structure
ACT 1:
Introduction to characters.
Establishment of relationships between man and old woman, as well as supporting characters, namely the young girls, the confused man, the ticket collector etc.
Establishment of environment, purpose of travel.
Conflict and resolution between the confused man and the old woman (Subplot/ Comic Relief)
ACT 2:
Further exposition, strengthening the relationships between the man and the old woman, as well as the young girl and the man.
Creation of complication, owing to old woman's constant nagging.
Conflict between business travellers and old woman (Subplot), leading to transfer to first class cabin.
Rising action occurs when woman continues to nag at young man, when he helps her with her dress.
Climax: argument between man and old woman.
Turning point: man leaves the old woman and disappears with his baggage.
ACT 3:
Falling action: woman searches in vain for the man.
Suspense created as the audience is left wondering whether the young man will disembark with the old woman.
Catastrophe, denouement: old woman is left sitting on the platform by herself, with no sign of the man as the train departs.
