3 Act Analysis (Tickets) - Jijo

Introduction /Exposition

The setting of the story is in a train and the whole film revolves around the train journey of an old woman accompanied by a young man on this journey.
The two characters are introduced in the first shot, and characteristics of the two characters are revealed through dialogues, gestures and expressions all along the film.
The relation between the two characters is not very clear in the beginning of the story, and leaves you guessing till the point where one of the characters says that the old woman with whom he is traveling is not his mother nor his grandmother but just an old lady from his community and traveling with her to her husband’s memorial service is part of his community service. This is where the purpose of the train journey is revealed and the relation between the two characters is revealed.
As the story progresses we come to know the dominating nature of the old woman and the clam nature of the young man. Almost in every dialogue between the young man and the old woman she seems to be dominating him and treats him like a slave.
The young mans calm nature is revealed all along the story by his calm replies to the old lady in spite of her constant nagging, the way he tries resolving the issues of them sitting on the wrong seats, the polite manner in which he talks to the young girls and the way he apologizes to the two gentlemen who he meets when he goes to get coffee.
The complication in the story is the old lady’s constant nagging on everything the young man does.

Rising Action:

The rising action of the story is the constant nagging of the old woman while the young man is helping her change her clothes. She constantly tells him how good for nothing he is and how she has to tolerate him in spite of him being so clumsy, slow and irresponsible.

Climax:

The climax of the story is the argument between the two characters and the young man leaving her and telling her that he prefers hell to the so called heaven he was experiencing with her.
Falling Action:
The falling action is the desperate attempt of the old woman to search for the young man all throughout the train after the argument as she realizes how dependent she was on him.

Denouement:

The denouement of the story is when the man with whom the lady fights for the phone helps her with her luggage to get off the train where she is left all alone and she is helplessly starring at the train when it leaves.
