Story - Nilisha

The police department was proud of Inspector Kashyap, who had been successful in excavating information about Bhatla Bhai’s activities. He had become the talk of the town for the past two weeks. His stories flooded the newspapers.

Inspector Kishan slams the door and enters his department while his subordinate behind him salutes and says: sir the report is ready.
Inspector Kishan nods and says: what does it say?
The report says that Inspector Kashyap died in an encounter yesterday between the police and Bhatla Bhai’s gang. He was shot in the chest and the bullet pierced his heart.
Inspector Kishan lifts up the files from the table and goes through the report once.
Sub Inspector: His room had been rummaged around also. The report says that the dark room with only a bed in the corner had a stench of a decayed life he had been living there. The walls were covered with numerous cutouts of activists from old newspapers and the floor was crammed with leftover pizzas. All windows are jammed and indicate that they have not been opened for a long time.
Inspector Kishan:hmmm.. Okay, did you speak to anyone about him?
Sub Inspector: No one knows anything about him. His neighbors have no clue either, since he never interacted with them.
All of a sudden Bhatla Bhai enters the room.
Silence occurs but the sub inspector turns towards him and starts the conversation to please Bhatla Bhai-
Kashyap got posted in Delhi where he was on a mission to investigate about the great Bhatia Bhai.... (Looks up at Bhatla Bhai)
Bhikari ban kar he was to enter your gang and then supply information to incriminate you in court...He was the one who gave commissioner Dubey information about your last drug consignment and your Hawala racket before the poor guy lost his life .
Bhatla Bhai scratches his back and walks to the inspectors chair and rests comfortably.
The inspector calls out to arrange tea for him and Bhatla bhai; the sub inspector leaves the room.
Inspector Kishan: namaste Bhai,
Bhatla Bhai: (left hand raised, with no nonsense look) Haan , Namaste
Kishan you got the reports ready?
Inspector Kishan: Yes Bhai, its there right in front of you on the table.
Bhatla Bhai: Kashyap Kahsyap Kashyap… the name seems to be echoing in the entire city.
Inspector Kishan: Bhai, It was his funeral yesterday, and we had his memorial service at the station today… I spoke a few words in the memory of the martyr too (chuckles).Takes out a paper from his pocket and reads-See what the news paper says-“ Inspector Kashyap whose career was full of honor, whose life, service, talent and virtue were the pride of the nation died on Thursday 12th Feb…… the great officer was martyred last evening in an encounter during which he tried to save a fellow inspector and got shot in the heart by one of the gangsters. The police salutes the great martyr for his service and bravery. May his soul rest in peace”
Bhatla Bhai: (laughs) well done Kishan.
Inspector Kishan: …..Inspector kashyap was an undercover cop, who had been working on a mission for two years in Delhi. His life was spent responding to crimes in progress, interviewing witnesses and suspects, apprehending fugitives, collecting evidence, writing reports and providing testimony in court. He always lived the cop life whether in uniform or not.
Bhatla Bhai: Nice, you made that traitorous bastard a martyr; ha ha ha
He got me thinking that very day, when he refused to shoot the commissioner… He refused to shoot the faggot… he said “Forgive him Bhai, everyone’s bound to make a mistake…
(abuses) In my business there is no place for forgiveness, this isn’t a bloody church… With me, you only give me loyalty, or I’ll make sure there’s a memorial service waiting for you…. A cop is always going to be a fucking cop…
(Silence fills the room)
Inspector Kishan: but Bhai, even I am a cop but I never thought twice before killing him, I will always be loyal to you bhai…
Bhatla Bhai: Hmm, Good. If you wanna stay prosperous and alive, I’d suggest you continue like this…
Inspector Kishan: (Squirms)
Bhatla Bhai: Now that you’ve got credit for being an honest and brave super cop, it’s time you repaid my kindness.
There’s another cop that’s gotten all tight assed and honest earlier and he is causing major problems for me. I suggest you take care of him as Kashyap. (As he gets up and goes out)
Inspector Kishan: Yes Bhai, I’ll take care of it. (Looking up at Kashyap's picture in guilt)
The following week the state police rewarded Inspector Kishan who had been recognized for handling the case along with Kashyap.
