Jijo - Story outline ( Draft 1)

A boy reads his father’s obituary in the news paper on his way back home from boarding school to attend his father’s funeral. Till the time he read the obituary he knew that the reason for his father’s death was heart attack, but now he comes to know the actual reason to be an overdose of some unidentified intoxicant.

He gets curios to know what exactly this unidentified intoxicant was. The funeral gets over and then he is not sent back to boarding school as his mom wants both the children close to her, so she admits him to the same school as his brother.

He finds his brother a little weird since the last time he was home. His brother hardly gets out of his room when he is at home and hardly talks to him nowadays. He notices a lot of change in his brother, from his lifestyle to his friends to his food habits; all has changed over the span of the last three months.

He decides to spy on his brother and overhears a few conversations of his with his friends and discovers that his brother is doing drugs and in one of them he hears them say something about his father’s death.

The boy gets more curious about his dads death and is wondering why his brother was talking to his friends about it.

He decides to go into his dads study room where he spent most of his time and finds out a strange kind of white powder in one of the draws of the study table. He even finds a debit card with its sides damaged. It looked like it got melted with something and it had the white powder all over it.

The boy decides to show the white powder to the cops and after a few lab tests he discovers it to be cocaine mixed with powdered sleeping pills.

The boy still can’t figure out the reason for the sudden change in his brother’s behaviour and decides to look around his room when he isn’t at home. While looking around the room he finds a few papers under his mattress with some research his brother had done on some toxic compounds. While the boy is flipping through the papers his brother enters the room and catches him fiddling around with the papers. His brother takes the papers from him ask him to leave the room. The boy asks his brother for an explanation for the research he had been doing. His brother doesn’t bother to answer and asks him to leave the room. The boy refuses to leave and threatens his brother that he would inform his mother about this if he doesn’t tell him about it.

That’s when his elder brother confesses to him that he was the one who had mixed the unidentified intoxicant in their fathers drink during their grandparent’s anniversary. The boy ask for a reasoning for this act and then his brother walks up to the boy and hugs him and says that he was right about their father having an extra marital affair and lately their father had started ill-treating their mother. He couldn’t take it anymore and then finally decided to do what the boy had suggested him three months ago. The boy is shocked but finally hugs his brother and is happy with the step he had taken and they decided never to inform their mom about it.

I like the story the way you have outlined it. Now turn it into "story" language - use the things you have been taught. For instance, show us the obit, show us the boy's thoughts, show us dialogue, make the bedroom where the drugs happen mysterious in atmosphere, then bring us to the peak (revelation of father's affair and brother's determination/motive to kill him). Now, WRITE IT OUT AS A STORY. We read some stories, didn't we? Do it like that.
